Aloe Vera Gel – The Harvesting Process

There’s no question that the uses for aloe vera are many; however, before diving into this, it is important to learn how to properly harvest this gel from the aloe leaf. Keep in mind, while you can purchase products that contain aloe and easily use them, it is still a good idea to know how to harvest the gel if you are ever in a pinch where this is necessary.

The first step is to choose one (or several) fat, large leaves from around the plant’s base. Then, grip the chosen leaves close to the base of the plant and pull up – firmly, yet gently. The leaf should come off fairly easily. Make sure that you don’t cut your fingers on the thorns that line some plant’s leaves as you do this.

After you have harvested the leaves, you can use a sharp knife to begin slicing away the thorny edge from a single side of each of the leaves. Slice the leaves lengthwise so that you have two, long halves of the plant. Once in half, move the halves onto your cutting service, keeping the gel side up, toward the ceiling at all times.

The last step is to use a spoon to begin scraping the gel away from each of the leaves and then place it into your nearby container. When you are finished harvesting the gel you need, be sure that you refrigerate any gel that is left over.

Now that you know how to harvest your own aloe vera gel, you can move on to aloe vera benefits for the skin. Don’t fret if you don’t have any home-grown aloe plants; you can get the same benefits from store-bought products. Once you have the gel ready to go, apply it to your face. While you can remove the gel and apply it out of your container, you can also squeeze the gel directly out of the aloe leave and onto your fingers. Rub the gel in gently until you have lightly covered your entire face. Leave the aloe on your face for a few minutes so that your pores have the opportunity to absorb it fully. Then, rinse off the remaining residue with warm water and pat your face to dry it. You can apply an aloe-based moisturizer after this.
